Blue Pine Seeds (Cupressus arizonica)

Package of 50 seeds collected this season.

Cupressus arizonica, the Arizona cypress, is a medium-sized tree of the Cupressaceae family native to southwestern North America, the southern United States of America, and northern Mexico. In the wild it is found in small, scattered groves, not in large forests. It has been introduced in the rest of the continents, becoming naturalized in many parts of Europe.

It is a medium-sized perennial tree with a conical crown and can reach 10-25 meters in height. The trunk can reach 50 cm in diameter with gray-green or blue-green foliage. It has a smooth reddish-brown bark from which vertical sheets emerge. It has grayish-green leaves, squamiform or overlapping with the raised apex. They are provided with resinous glands on the back. It has woody strobili with 6-8 muconate scales of greenish-brown color in youth and brown in maturity.

It is very resistant to drought, relatively tolerant to cold and frost and able to live in almost all types of soils, even somewhat chalky, but intolerant to waterlogged.

Its main use is ornamental in parks and gardens around the world due to its austerity and easy care. It is a plant widely used as a border or hedge to delimit plots, due to its robust and dense character as well as being easily moldable when pruning.
