The White Encino, (Quercus deserticola) is an endemic species of Mexico, which occurs in twelve states, between 2000 m and 3000 m above sea level, forming mainly oak forests and associating with scrub.

It is a tree from 2.5 m to 10 m in height and a normal diameter of 12 cm to 70 cm; its bark is dark brown, with very marked furrows; leaves oblong-oblanceolate to lanceolate or oval, 3 cm to 16 cm long 1.2 cm to 5.0 cm wide, the upper surface is dark green, somewhat shiny and rough, the underside light with abundant tomentos

This species is used to obtain firewood and charcoal, manufacture poles, pitchforks, ropes, plows, as well as in the tanning of hides and to obtain cellulose for paper.

Encino Blanco forms large wooded communities which makes it ideal for reforesting large areas.
