Uaxim tree seeds (Leucaena leucocephala)
Package with 100 seeds to sow, fresh from this season.
Uaxim (Leucaena leucocephala) grows as a shrub 3 to 6 meters (up to 12 m) tall. Some of these trees live up to 50 years and grow wild in warm areas. Its pods are green when they are young and brown when they are ripe; they contain 15 to 30 seeds. It is a tree whose foliage is used to feed livestock, especially goats.
The pods it produces also serve as fodder, but are also for human consumption. It is high in nutrients, especially protein. It can be cut to give it to animals or it can be grazed, that is, it can be consumed by livestock in the field itself. In the Yucatan Peninsula it is used as forage and medicinal.
Native to tropical America, apparently from southern Mexico (Yucatán). It extends from Mexico to Nicaragua, including Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. The Spanish brought it to the Philippines and from there it was introduced to Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea and Southeast Asia.
