Carambola is popularly known as “star fruit” or Star Fruit, due to the star shape it acquires when cut. This fruit is native and typical of Indonesia and Malaysia. Its cultivation has spread to other tropical countries in Asia and America. The main producing countries today are Thailand, Brazil, Colombia and Bolivia.
Its fruit has an oval, elongated shape, with five edges or wings, and when cut, it has the shape of a five-pointed star, it is small, with a length that ranges between 8 and 14 cm; It has a thin, lustrous and edible skin, of a color between green or gold and yellow-orange when mature; the pulp is crunchy, soft in texture and glassy yellow, has few or no seeds, juicy and with a fine bittersweet flavor; the large carambola fruits are tastier and sweeter than the smaller ones and with a bittersweet flavor.
