The jackfruit, jackfruit, nanca, nanjea or panapen tree (Artocarpus heterophyllus) is a plant species belonging to the Moraceae family. It is native to Indonesia, although it is also believed that it could be native to India.
The tree produces a tropical fruit that is widely valued. The fruit has seeds that represent 15-18% of the weight of the fruit. The seed contains about 55% moisture and is a good source of starch and protein.
Approximately 50% of the protein in the fruit consists of lectins called jacalin which has an adverse effect on the digestive tract. Therefore, the seed must be cooked or processed for consumption.
Jackfruit (Artocarpus Heterophyllus Lam.) Is a tropical fruit that is widely grown in Asia. The fruits can reach weights of more than 25 kg and are highly appreciated for their nutritional value, as well as being eaten as fresh fruit, tanned and cooked in different ways such as sweets, pallets, tanned and cooked.
